My family is a family reunion and want to spend time in the Bahamas. Someone said that the trip can be cheaper than airfare, but we would be on the island more than a day.

The flights are cheaper than cruise ships.
All cruise ships generate income, by the passengers back. Never was a passenger in the Bahamas or another island in a way, heard a few days later, another boat trip back home.
While allowing the private boats such as yachts and e-mail resources, cruise NO. You must formally Bahamas on a port of entry and allowed to pass through immigration and customs.
Some others can not. Ask Fiesta Bahamas
For those who doubt .. and gave a thumbs down, you should do some research.
